Something I would change on campus is the famous “wedge” in front of the USU where it connects the path to Brotman Hall. There is literally a pathway on one side of a pillar that is open to about 4 feet wide, allowing only 1 person to walk through at a time. and on the side closest to the USU, there is a cement bench that extends over the path slightly so you have to walk in a a strange angle. On the other side of the pillar is a more open pathway, but it takes about 5 – 10 seconds to get around and back on the path towards the USU. my idea would be to reduce the width of the pillar and replace it with a slimmer pillar. This way, the path way would be open up to more people to walk in at once and reducing traffic flow on campus. I use this pathway every single day and it’s such a hassle to get to class when you have to wait for people to walk through a wedge!
This is more of a 2d sketch from an above view. This is what the pathway would look like, give or take a bit more walking room. The “wedge” would be decreased to a smaller pillar, allowing more people to walk in and out of the first pathway! Or, if the roof weight can support itself, i’d eliminate the pillar and cement benches completely!
